Important COVID-19 Update
Oro Valley Smiles “RE-OPENING” on May 6, 2020 for Essential Care
We hope this greeting finds you and your family in good health. Our local and even global communities have been through unprecedented events and life altering experiences over the last few months. Many of us are struggling to determine how best to respond and/or emerge and move forward with our personal and professional lives… There are no simply no easy and clear cut answers across our social, economic and demographic differences…
Dental implants are considered to be the gold standard in tooth replacement solutions, restoring dental function and protecting the jawbone from degeneration. These small titanium posts are surgically embedded in the jaw and gradually fuse with surrounding tissue to serve as artificial tooth roots. Implants can provide unrivaled support for dental crowns, bridges, and dentures. Dr. Len Gerken offers comprehensive implant dentistry at his Oro Valley, AZ, practice, from preliminary bone grafts to implant placement and restoration. With our extensive experience and compassionate approach, we can create individually tailored treatment plans to completely restore even the most badly damaged smiles. Flexible financing is available so patients on nearly any budget can benefit from this advanced treatment option.
Dental implants provide unrivaled benefits over traditional treatment methods, restoring dental form, function, and beauty. Since implants act as tooth roots, they can prevent the jawbone resorption that occurs after tooth loss by stimulating the surrounding tissues. This, in turn, helps to maintain facial contours and definition, so patients can avoid puckered lips and a sunken or aged appearance. In combination with an implant-supported restoration, dental implants replace the entire tooth from root to crown. As a result, you won't have to worry about your restoration slipping out of place when you eat or speak, so you can feel confident in your smile.
In order to ensure a successful outcome, dental implants require careful treatment planning. At Oro Valley Smiles, Dr. Gerken incorporates advanced technology including digital x-rays to assess the health of your gums, teeth, and jaw. If we detect any signs of dental decay or periodontal disease, we must address these issues prior to implant placement.
With our extensive experience and compassionate approach, we can create individually tailored treatment plans to completely restore even the most badly damaged smiles.
To qualify for implants, you must also have sufficient jawbone tissue to support the implant posts. If you have experienced jawbone atrophy, Dr. Gerken may need to perform a preliminary bone graft to restore your eligibility for treatment. It is important to keep in mind that a bone graft may add an additional four to six months to your treatment timeline. However, once healing is complete, you should have the healthy foundation necessary to proceed with implant surgery.
Implants are placed directly into the jaw to closely mimic the function of natural dental roots.
To begin the procedure, Dr. Gerken will create one or more small incisions in the gums and make space for the implant posts. We can then carefully embed the implants in your jawbone, before closing the incisions with sutures. Dr. Gerken prefers traditional dental implants due to their stability and longevity. For qualifying denture patients, Dr. Gerken can perform the advanced All-on-4® technique, which involves placing only four dental implants to support a full restoration.
Over the next four to six months, the implants will fuse with your jawbone during a process called osseointegration. This creates a strong, stable base for your restorations and is integral to the success of your treatment. During this time, we may provide you with a temporary restoration to maintain your appearance. Our dental crowns, bridges, and dentures are crafted at a local laboratory in Phoenix which uses the finest materials. When your permanent, customized restoration is complete, Dr. Gerken can check to make sure it fits comfortably and looks natural, then attach it using abutment pieces connected to the top of the implant posts. We will discuss how to properly care for your restoration and you can leave our office with a fully functional, new smile.
