Conceal Minor Imperfections with Dental Bonding

Small imperfections, such as a chipped tooth or a slight gap between the teeth, can have a significant impact on the overall appearance of your smile. If you have healthy teeth and gums but want to conceal minor aesthetic concerns, dental bonding may be the solution. During treatment, Dr. Len Gerken will apply a tooth-colored resin to mask imperfections and create an overall more uniform appearance. At our Oro Valley, AZ, practice, it is our goal to help you achieve a beautiful smile you can feel proud of. Dental bonding is a fantastic stand-alone treatment, but it can also be incorporated into a custom smile makeover or combined with teeth whitening for a more dramatic transformation.

Is Bonding Right for Me?

When you arrive for your initial consultation at Oro Valley Smiles, Dr. Gerken and his staff will take their time to listen to your cosmetic goals and concerns. He can then analyze your smile during a comprehensive oral examination, taking diagnostic digital x-rays and other advanced images. Dr. Gerken prioritizes the patient experience, thoroughly explaining treatment options and creating a plan that best suits your needs and budget. Dental bonding is an effective treatment for concealing a range of cosmetic issues, including:

  • Minor chips or cracks
  • Small gaps between teeth
  • Discoloration or intrinsic stains
  • Worn teeth
  • Mildly crooked teeth

Dental bonding typically does not require any anesthesia, making it a fast and relatively simple treatment to address flaws and achieve a luminous smile. Dr. Gerken will carefully select the shade of composite resin that matches your enamel for completely natural-looking results.

Dental bonding uses a composite resin material to address imperfections. It may be recommended to fill in chips, close gaps in your smile, or lengthen very short or worn-looking teeth.

The Bonding Procedure

If you are found to be a good candidate for bonding, we will begin the procedure by applying an etching solution to the teeth. This helps to create a stronger bond between the enamel and the composite resin material. We can then carefully apply the bonding agent to the surface of the tooth and sculpt it to ensure it does not disrupt your bite. Dr. Gerken will apply a curing light to harden the material in place before polishing your teeth for a finishing touch. Treatment can typically be completed in about 30 to 60 minutes per tooth.

Dr. Gerken prioritizes the patient experience, thoroughly explaining treatment options and creating a plan that best suits your needs and budget.

One of the greatest benefits of dental bonding is that patients can see the cosmetic results and enjoy their newly enhanced smile immediately after their visit. In addition, with proper preventive care and good oral hygiene, results can last between three to 10 years.
